The Marshall A’s suffered another close loss on Wednesday, July 17, losing 5-4 at the Milroy Yankees. The Yankees scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally for the win.
The A’s snapped a scoreless game in the fourth with back-to-back walks by Cody Wichmann and Peyton Grant before Connor Neubeck delivered an RBI single. The lead moved to 2-0 in the fifth with Chase Douglas coaxing a one-out walk and later scoring on an RBI single by Wes Sarsland.
Milroy scored a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 2-1, but Marshall answered in a big way in the eighth as Logan Tomasek smacked a two-run home run over the left-center field wall to push the lead to 4-1.
The Yankees however spoiled the night for the A’s putting together a single, two walks, a bases-clearing triple and a walk-off single to win 5-4.
Mitchell Bouwman was dominate all night on the mound for the A’s as he fired 8 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts, while allowing four runs on four hits. He allowed just two base runners in the first six innings.
Tomasek and Neubeck each had two hits for the A’s, while Sarsland and Wichmann each had one hit.
The A’s, who have secured the No. 4 seed from the Corn Belt League, in the upcoming Region 4C Tournament starting on Aug. 3, will close the regular season this Sunday, July 21, hosting Bird Island at 5 p.m.
