A’s walk-off raymond on Hall of fame night

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Marshall A’s moved back into the win column on Friday, June 30, with a thrilling, 3-2 walk-off victory over Raymond at Legion Field. The victory capped off a great night at the ballpark on ‘Hall of Fame’ Night, as Russ Sanow was inducted into the Marshall Baseball Hall of Fame in a pregame ceremony.

The A’s held a 2-0 lead after seven innings before the Rockets rallied with a pair of runs to tie the game in the eighth inning.

The game remained at 2-2 until the bottom of the ninth when the A’s put together the game-winning rally. Connor Neubeck started the rally with a single and moved to third on a double by Matt Hmielewski. Following an intentional walk to Jordan Mernaugh to load the bases, Logan Tomasek came through with a sharp single up the middle on a 3-2 pitch to drive home the game-winning run. It was the second walk-off base hit for Tomasek this season. He also came through with a walk-off single to win the Belle Plaine Tournament on June 11.

Marshall starting pitcher, Hunter Wienhoff, was outstanding, tossing the complete game victory, scattering nine hits with seven strikeouts.

Hmielewski led the A’s offense with three hits, while Neubeck and Tomasek added two hits each, while AJ Toulouse, Mernaugh and Peyton Grant each had one hit.

Marshall broke a scoreless game in the sixth as Toulouse led-off the frame with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch, before advancing to third on a fly ball by Chase Douglas. Grant then came through with a deep sac fly to left field to plate Toulouse.

The A’s plated another run in the seventh as Hmielewski reached base on a one-out single before stealing second. He would later sprint across the plate on a sac fly by Ryan VanMoer.

Marshall, now 12-5 overall, returns to the diamond on Saturday, July 8, with a 2 p.m. non-league game at Hadley. On Sunday, July 9, the A’s are back in Corn Belt League action with a 5 p.m. home game versus Sacred Heart.
