MINNEOTA, Minn. – The Marshall A’s played its final non-league game of the regular season on Wednesday night suffering a 2-0, seven-inning defeat at the Minneota Hudhens.
The teams split the series this season with Marshall earning an 11-9 victory in May.
The A’s were held to just a pair of hits, but did put runners on second and third in both the third and sixth innings.
Dillon Loft smacked a two-out single in the third frame, before Chase Douglas drilled a ground-rule double. The inning came to a close however with a pop out. Andrew Cowden was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth, while Peyton Grant reached via a strikeout wild pitch. But runners eventually moved into scoring position with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
Loft made his first career A’s appearance on the mound as the right-hander started and tossed a solid three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Wes Sarsland allowed one hit in two innings with a pair of strikeouts, while Jacob Eben struck out two in one inning of work. Minneota put a runner in scoring position in just one of six innings.
The A’s, 15-7 overall, return to league play at Wabasso on Friday night at 7:30, before closing the regular season hosting Bird Island on Sunday, July 23, with first pitch at 6 p.m. The A’s are looking to secure a top-four Corn Belt League regular season finish and assure themselves a spot in the Region 4C Tournament in August.
