TRACY, Minn. – The Marshall A’s opened the 2023 season on Saturday, May 20, with a 15-1 Corn Belt League victory over the Tracy Engineers.
Hunter Wienhoff had an outstanding debut for the A’s tossing four strong innings to earn the win, while also finishing 4 for 5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run.
Another A’s newcomer, Seth Resnick had two hits, scored two runs and was strong defensively behind the plate. Connor Neubeck also collected two hits, including blasting a 316-foot home run to right field and scored three runs.
Jordan Mernaugh added two hits, while Logan Terfehr (on his 21st birthday) came off the bench and finished with two hits.
Chase Douglas, playing his first game in the Green and Gold, scored a pair of runs, stole two bases and had one hit.
Peyton Grant scored two runs and added a solo home run, while teammates AJ Toulouse, Wes Sarsland and Zach Olsen each had one hit to help Marshall’s 17-hit day.
Wienhoff, the crafty two-year veteran of Minnesota amateur baseball, allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Charlie Jacobson fired two shutout innings with five strikeouts, while Mitchell Bouwman struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh.
The A’s played solid defense in not making an error in the game with Grant and Dillon Loft flashing the leather up the middle with both recording three assists.
Marshall will open its home season on Wednesday night with a 7:30 match-up versus Minneota.
