MILROY, Minn. – Ryan Schwagel hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the 11th inning to lead the A’s to a thrilling 4-3 11-inning victory over the Milroy Yankees on Sunday night in Corn Belt League action.
Marshall, which trailed 3-0 after six innings, used a two-run single by Schwagel in the seventh and a sac fly by Seth Resnick in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3.
Hunter Wienhoff was outstanding on the mound for the A’s tossing the first nine innings recording 11 strikeouts, while walking three and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits.
Matt Hmielewski picked-up the win in relief firing the final two innings with two strikeouts.
The A’s finished with six hits in the game with Schwagel leading the way with two, while Chase Douglas, Connor Neubeck, Resnick and AJ Toulouse each finishing with one hit.
A’s youngster Braxton Koster worked a key walk in the 11th inning and scored the game-winning run for the A’s. He also came through with a nice running catch in foul territory late in the game. Another A’s rookie, Cooper Mensink scored a run in the seventh inning navigating his way 90-feet to record his first career run for Marshall.
Marshall, 3-1 overall, 2-1 CBL, returns home on Friday, June 2, facing Tracy at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Field. The A’s then travel to Sacred Heart on Sunday, June 4, with a 1:30 p.m. contest.
