Marshall A’s earn two weekend victories

SACRED HEART, Minn. – The Marshall A’s won a pair of Corn Belt League games this past weekend to improve to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in CBL action.

The A’s earned a 12-3 victory over Tracy on Saturday night in Marshall, before earning a hard-fought 6-3, 14-inning thriller over Sacred Hearth on Sunday afternoon.

In the win over Sacred Heart, Seth Resnick snapped a 3-3 game with a single to score Peyton Grant, while Jordan Mernaugh would later smack a 2-run double to give the A’s a 6-3 lead.

Logan Terfehr was outstanding in relief, tossing six shutout innings with nine strikeouts, while allowing one walk and three hits. He faced the minimum in four of the six innings tossed. The Saints nearly scored in the 11th inning, loading the bases with no outs, but a strikeout, a pop out and a ground out ended the rally to keep the game tied at 3-3.

Hunter Wienhoff started and also tossed a gem firing eight innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks.

Mernaugh led the A’s with three hits, while Grant and Seth Resnick each had two hits, while AJ Toulouse, Chase Douglas, Talan Plante and Wienhoff each collected one hit. Toulouse’s infield hit with two outs in the ninth tied the game and scored pinch-runner Owen Kesteloot.

Marshall returns home on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. non-league game versus the Hadley Buttermakers at Legion Field.

MARSHALL, Minn. – Marshall earned a 12-3 win over Tracy on Saturday night. Wes Sarsland and Charlie Jacobson combined on a one-hitter in the win. The lone hit was an infield single in the eighth inning.

Sarsland pitched the first 5 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and five walks, while Jacobson struck out nine and walked three.

The A’s struck quickly with five runs in the first inning and the added one in the second and two in the third.
