Eben earns win in first career start to pace a’s over hadley

MARSHALL, Minn. – Jake Eben, making his Marshall A’s pitching debut, tossed six strong innings, while the offense cracked out 12 hits, to lead Marshall to a 7-5 victory over Hadley in a non-league game on Wednesday night at Legion Field.

Marshall is now 6-1 on the season before this weekend’s tournament in Belle Plaine.

Eben allowed a three-run home run in the second, but gave up just one other hit, while striking out two and walking three. Jordan Mernaugh pitched two innings and allowed one run, while Logan Tomasek earned the save tossing the final inning and allowing one run.

Trailing 3-0 in the second, the A’s tied the game in the home half of the frame on a fielder’s choice RBI by Chase Douglas a two-out, two-run single by Peyton Grant.

The A’s added two more runs in the third and two more in the fourth to build a 7-3 lead.

Grant closed the night with two hits and two RBIs, Seth Resnick added two hits and an RBI. Mernaugh had two base hits and RBI, while Tomasek had two hits. Logan Terfehr, Hunter Wienhoff, Connor Neubeck, Zach Olsen each with one hit. AJ Toulouse added a sac fly.

In front of another great crowd, a total of 16 players appeared in the game for the A’s. The average age on the field for the final four innings was estimated at 19 years old (wild guess). Great to have young A’s players making an impact!

Marshall opens play at the Belle Plaine Tigertown Classic on Friday night at 8:30 versus a strong Webster Sox squad that played in last year’s state tournament.
