MARSHALL — The Marshall A’s moved to 2-0 on the season, rallying from a 4-0 deficit, to defeat the Willmar Rails 5-4 on Friday, May 15, at Legion Field.
The A’s scored a run in the fourth and added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings before plating two in the ninth to get the come-from-behind victory.
AJ Toulouse drove home the winning run smacking an opposite field single to score Cody Wichmann with two outs in the ninth. Wichmann one batter earlier tied the game with a bloop double to score Owen Kesteloot.
Kesteloot picked up the victory in relief tossing five shutout innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Jake Eben started on the mound and fired four innings, allowing four runs (one earned), with two strikeouts and six walks.
Charlie Jacobson had three hits and an RBI to pace the A’s offense, while Connor Neubeck and Wichmann each had two hits. Toulouse, Andrew Cowden and Kesteloot each finished with one hit.
The A’s were scheduled to host Raymond on May 17, but due to rain, the game was rescheduled for Saturday, July 18, for 5 p.m. in Marshall.
Marshall continues play on Friday, May 22, with a road non-league game versus Pipestone, before returning to Corn Belt League action on Sunday, May 24, at Granite Falls with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
