Marshall A’S win season opener; Host Willmar and Raymond this weekend

MARSHALL — The Marshall A’s opened the 2026 season on Sunday, May 10, earning a 6-4 victory over the Milroy Yankees in Corn Belt League action at Legion Field.

Cody Wichmann had three hits, including crushing a grand slam in the seventh inning, to give the A’s a 6-1 advantage. Wichmann also earned the save giving up an unearned run with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Liam Kruse, in relief of starting pitcher Mitchell Bouwman, earned the win tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Bouwman started and pitched the first 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts

Cooper Mensink and Ryan Schwagel each had two hits, while AJ Toulouse, Josh Kraft, Kruse, Charlie Jacobson and Logan Tomasek all had one base hit.

Kruse pushed across the first run of the game with an RBI single that was lost in the sun in the bottom of the first. Jacobson gave the A’s a 2-1 lead in the third with an RBI fielder’s choice.

The game would remain 2-1 until Wichmann’s clutch two-out grand slam over the left field fence.

Marshall, 1-0 overall, will host the Willmar Rails on Friday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m., and then play host to the Raymond Rockets on Sunday, May 17, with first pitch at 5 p.m. #StraightAs
